Straight ahead, latin, and bebop!
Aidan Berg is a 22-year-old jazz bassist entering his fourth year at the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a degree in jazz bass performance . At the Butler School of Music, studying under John Fremgen, he has contributed arrangements and has participated in the UT Jazz Orchestra for six semesters.
Outside of the classroom, he has curated two trio shows at Monks Jazz Club, as well as had the opportunity to perform alongside mentors — Diego Rivera, Mike Sailors, and Ross Margitza. This past summer, Aidan attended the Jazz Aspen Snowmass program, in which he performed in the first-ever Afro-Caribbean Big Band under Etienne Charles. This spring, he was named a 2025 Rainwater Innovation Grant recipient, in which he’ll be bringing Etienne Charles to UT Austin for a guest residency in October 2025. Furthermore, Aidan is also a 2025 recipient of the Eleanor Alexander Stribling Award for Excellence in Jazz Studies. On and off the bandstand, Aidan seeks to uplift and honor the rich tradition of jazz music.
